Meet “Morty.”  The Golden Retriever was deployed in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and jumped 30 feet out of a helicopter when he caught the scent of someone in need. Now he’s in North Carolina for Hurricane Florence.  Morty is a canine assistant from the Disaster Response Canine Unit, but we’ll let you hear Morty’s details for yourself in the news clip in the video below:

Our final word has to do with those of you who want to help pets displaced by the hurricane. Do not donate to the Humane Society of the United States, it’s unlikely your donation will reach the people and pets who need it. Donate instead to local shelters like the Charleston Animal Society. You can also donate to AKC Reunite which has reached out to all sixteen AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer recipients in the path of Hurricane Florence.
