Approximately 2,000 distinct dog breeds have existed at varying times throughout history according to Bonnie V. Beaver in her book, “Canine behavior: Insights and answers.” The#AKC currently registers 184 dog breeds, while the UK’s Kennel Club recognizes 210 breeds and the Fédération Cynologique Internationale recognizes 332 breeds and 11 provisional ones. National Purebred Dog Day^® is pleased to have as page friends the owners and breeders of 238 breeds, but give us time, we’ll grow that list yet!
