We love breed nicknames, and an old one we came across is for the Clumber Spaniel. Often referred to as the “Dog of Dignity” back in the day, the breed earned its moniker for its aristocratic bearing, and quiet and dignified disposition. As one author for a GunDog Magazine article wrote, “The presence and hunting style of this breed makes me think of a dog you would expect to see snuffling out birds for a pair of sedate, older English gentlemen carrying side-by-side Purdeys.”
“Flushing, a Clumber Spaniel At Work” by Jan Irving is available in print here.
