In 1986, Ilene Hockberg published a take-off of the world’s most famous fashion magazine and called it “Dogue.” The entire layout, from articles, beauty advice, and editorial letters, to advertising, hairstyles, and seasonal fashion, was geared to dogs. The models were dogs, and verbiage was worded accordingly as readers were regaled with the latest styles from Yves St. Bernard, Canine Klein and Russ Lauren, dazzled by jewelry from Bulldogari or Van Cleef and Arfpel, and told to smell better with Kennel No. 5 perfume. Articles like “Collars Complete the Look,” and “Dogue’s Health Style” show the fashion forward dog how to put her best paw forward. And yes, you groan some.
Dogue continues to have a Facebook page which was launched in 2012. If you love parody and are a dog lover, you might want to check it out.
