“Harvey” (real name, Sykes) is the talented star of Thinkbox, the marketing body for commercial TV in the UK. Its job is to convince advertisers and agencies that TV advertising is where they should be spending their bucks, and with commercials like the “Harvey and Harmony” one below, it’s an easy sell. Several different breeds appear in the ad, and “Sykes” himself has been alternately described as a Parson Russell Terrier, and a Parson Russell Terrier mix. Sykes had been the company’s mascot since 2011 but retired in 2016 making this his last commercial. Andrew MacGillivray, Thinkbox’s marketing director, said: “Harvey has really struck a chord with both the general public and the advertising industry. He’s been amazing at reminding people of the power of TV advertising and, at its heart, emotional story-telling. It’s great to have him back in a new ad – and in love. ”
“Harvey” is probably familiar to many of you since he’s had a prolific career which includes appearances in Midsommer Mysteries, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The Other Boleyn Girl, Young Victoria, The Dutchess, Alexander, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Return to Cranford, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Wolfman and Clash of Titans.
