Hound Dog

Before Elvis Presley performed the biggest hit of his career, Big Mama Thornton recorded the Lieber-Stoller song, “Hound Dog,” in 1952. ”  It was Mama Thornton’s only hit record, selling over 500,000 copies. Elvis got the song from Freddie Bell and the Bellboys who’d rewritten the words, and the rest is history. Elvis would go on to sing the song to a Basset Hound on the Ed Sullivan show. Which version do you prefer?
