In the 19th century, the Schipperke was so popular, it was named the national dog of Belgium. The different Belgian Shepherds may have a thing or two to say about that, but in the 1800s, Schipps were the most prevalent house dog in central Belgium. By the way, how do you say the Schipperke‘s name? Many people say “SKIP-er-kee,” but some say that it’s more correctly pronounced “SHEEP-er-ker.”  What do Schipperke folks say?
