“Icing” on a Breed

While at the recent AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin, we asked a Neapolitan Mastiff owner if it was possible to “over do” certain aspects of the breed, and the answer was “yes.” Shortly after the interview, we came across a slang term for this very thing, and the term is “icing.” The Encyclopedia of Canine Terminology defines “icing” as an over exaggeration in a breed, a “more is better” condition even though it’s incorrect, if not detrimental to the breed. The term comes from the phrase, “icing on a cake.”  You can see that interview below:
