Painting Details: My work was a kind of an experiment. I didn’t want to draw a typical portrait – I decided to create a realistic illustration of a dog by using a limited color palette and give it a bit surreal touch by adding the jigsaw puzzle.
Artist’s thoughts: When I was a kid, I saw the Disney movie “101 Dalmatians” and I fell in love with it! So one day my parents brought to our home a dalmatian puppy. We called her “Chica”. She was such a clever dog! She had a funny habit – when everyone was asleep in the middle of the night, she used to open the door to our living room and slept on the sofa – she loved it! As soon as she heard that someone woke up, she went back to her place in our hall. But we all knew what she did – the white fur on our black sofa betrayed her!
Right now I draw a lot of dogs of various breeds – from tiny Yorkshire Terriers to African Mastiffs. I am happy when people who order a dog portrait from me say that I managed to catch this characteristic expression in their dog’s eyes.
