We’ve read more often than we can count that Great Danes are “leaners.” Danes aren’t content to simply stand beside their person, “their “modus operandi” is to lean into their person. Why? Because their capacity for affection is bottomless, and their version of a Great Dane hug is to lean. Some owners say it’s a show of trust and affection, and others have said that they can tell when someone is “accepted” into the house because the Great Dane starts leaning on them. Evidently, they only do it to people they like.
Results can be predictable. The “leanee” loses their balance, sometimes falls over, and the perplexed Dane stands over them as if to ask, “What is wrong with you?”
There are those – not Dane owners – who say that all dogs lean, and that it just becomes more obvious when a dog the size of a Great Dane does it. What say you, Great Danes owners?
