Painting Details: I wanted something different, something original. Something that combined all of the contest criteria into one package. I had no idea what I was going to do, I only knew what I wasn’t going to do. Many ideas came to me but none of them fit. Like trying on a too tight coat or trying to fit two misfit pieces of a puzzle together. None of them fit right and every concept that entered my mind was almost immediately tossed aside. And then some weeks after learning about the competition, it hit me. Rather suddenly, really. I have no idea where it came from, a switch was turned on and there was no going back. Other artists know what I’m talking about. It’s called inspiration, direction, guidance and a feeling of I GOT THIS! that overwhelms you when you get a good idea that’s formed clearly in the mind. The idea was so delicious I could hardly wait to get it on canvas. As I contemplated how I was going to execute it, I realized that I had everything on hand already, aside from some plastic pure bred dog toy models, which I was luckily able to purchase at our local craft and hobby store. Gypsy, my dog, who is always more than happy to assist me with new painting projects, worked very hard with keeping her position while I plotted out the precise locations of each plastic toy on their respective countries. Being true to her breed, she wanted nothing more than to please me and she remained in place as I sketched out the first draft. I would have to say, from start to finish, the entire experience of creating the final painted image was most exhilarating and fun!
Artist’s Thoughts: I am a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owner who adores this fabulous, fun loving breed. So much so, I dedicate my artistic impulses towards painting this breed for other Cavalier King Charles Spaniel lovers around the world.
This one is my favorite so far. It’s a very creative representation of the theme and the execution is lovely.
Linda, this competition has been tough in that we’ve wanted to own each entry! We’ve been so pleased with the quality of work.
