Artist’s Thoughts: I have always loved learning about how different dogs throughout history. My top favorites have always been Togo from Nome and Barry the St. Bernard from the Alps. I enjoyed learning about other dogs that have changed the course of our history as I studied out different breeds that I could include in the picture.

Heroic dogs in history. From the left, we have: Togo- ran 264 miles to save Nome; Charlie- helped JFK calm down during the Cuban Missile Crisis; Barry- saved 40 people in the Alps; Nick Carter, tracked down more than 650 criminals;  Smoky- served in WWII, and Apollo, the first K-9 to respond to 9/11.
