Artist’s Thoughts: My goal is to create the dog portrait just like the photo, in this case a German Shepherd. It’s rather difficult trying to use different shades of black to create the shadows. This was a commissioned piece for a client who’s son loved his dog like a child which as dog owners will agree is easy to do. My process is to paint layer after layer of light acrylic paint to duplicate the natural layers we naturally see through our own eyes
