Million Dollar Decorator’s Dog

How is it that an interior designer would feel comfortable with having silk-covered antique chairs, delicate vases, fine art, and plush rugs exposed to the shedding, chewing, slobber and occasional gastric upsets of dogs? Because, as Susanna Salk explains in her book, At Home with Dogs and Their Designers, of all people, designers understand that beautiful rooms don’t feel comfortable if they lack soul, and there’s nothing more soulful than the wagging tail and excited greeting of a dog. This, the author explains, is why so many designers have dogs.

If you follow such things, you may know the name, Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Named one of the world’s best interior designers and architects by Architectural Digest in 2014, London-born Italian-Frenchman, Bullard, is one of the featured designers on Bravo’s hit show, Million Dollar Decorators, and has an award-winning reality show in the United Kingdom, “Hollywood Me.” His canine companion of choice is Daisy Olympia Green (or D.O.G., her initials) whom he regards as a family member, “my little girl,” and his “most precious.”  Daisy, a Wheaten Terrier, is known to enjoy teatime in a Moroccan-inspired dining niche, uses a Mansour Berber rug as a scratching pad, keeps her toys under an 18th century Italian cabinet, and has her own black leather club chair (now her namesake in Bullard’s furniture line) that is complete with “brass studs that complement her complexion. A Tiffany daisy charm hangs from her snakeskin collar decorated with rhinestones.

More pictures of Daisy can be spotted on Bullard’s Instagram page from which the thumbnail image comes.
