The Miniature Poodle Retriever

Diminutive versions of a larger breed sometimes get short shrift, so we think it’s worth sharing the accomplishments of the smaller sizes of breeds that also come bigger. For instance, did you know that Miniature Poodles are allowed to run in North American Hunting Retriever Association tests?

Sixteen years ago, “Percy” and “Meya,” Miniature Poodles both, qualified for their working certificates. Percy became the first miniature poodle in North America to get the Poodle Club of America Working Certificate, while Meya would go on to get her CKC WC in 2002. Their achievements lead the way for the Canadian Kennel Club to change the wording of breeds eligible to participate in the WC/I/X tests: Retrievers, Irish Water Spaniels and Poodles. Up until then, it has been open only to Standard Poodles.  You can read a first hand account of Percy’s accomplishment here.

Poodles are terrific retrievers and can do everything other retrievers can do, and that includes Miniature Poodles!
