This is an excellent opportunity for dog artists to have their work seen by a large, concentrated audience of purebed dog owners, show judges, fanciers, breeders, handlers and other professionals. All work will be posted on National Purebred Dog Day’s website and Facebook page. Work should be made available for purchase, but it is not mandatory.

Wanted to reach out with my artwork – have a very unique story about animals and artwork you need to see.
I paint Lego pieces and make portraits of animals/classic art etc…

Hi Joseph, we’d like to learn more. Can you direct us to a source where we’d learn the history of your art, and specifically (since we are a site dedicated to the purebred dog) breeds you’ve done?
Where is the call for entry?
Here you go, Don: http://ow.ly/SB1z50hR2GM
Hello National Purebred Dog Day,
Is this competition open to oil paintings? I usually don’t compete if there is photography. Just wondering what the media are that it is open to?
Thanks so much,
Cedar Keshet
No photography, Cedar, or even print media. The competition is limited to fine arts!
I have been photographing dogs, working in the field (hunting dogs) for 20 years, and been in the fancy for more. Your suggestion that photography cannot be included as a fine art is shortsighted and what I’d expect from the geritol crowd. My work has appeared in quite a few exhibits, not dog centered, mind you, of dogs.
As a former breeder, showman, and judge, I appreciate and value of the purebred dog. I am also a retired Children’s Book Illustrator. The majority of the books, games, corporate image promotions, and character creations are animals. Their spirit and sensibilities are my inspiration.
Mary Grace, we value your commitment to purebred dogs, both in the show ring, whelping box, and on canvas, so to speak. We need all hands on deck to preserve what we have, and to help the breeds that are struggling to maintain. You are appreciated!
This 24×36 painting is called “Southern Comfort”. It represents the love and “comfort” this gentleman is embracing from his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. My husband, Ted Eubank, is an AKC judge and our breed was Cavaliers.

Good for you and your success, Melody! You may have noticed that no medium is being accepted that can be duplicated through multiple runs, i.e. serigraph, lithograph, and yes, photography. Entries must be originals that cannot be duplicated multiple times at the time of creation. That said, you may not know that our biggest event of the year IS a photo contest that happens on May 1. Photographers may choose from out of thirty different categories to compete for prizes donated by fine vendors, and we have a few ideas up our sleeve for professional photographers in the future. No doubt your work is art, and no doubt that it is lovely. Portraying us as part of the “geritol crowd” because the competition isn’t being run as you would like, however, is just being snarky.
