Artist’s Thoughts: I wanted to represent several varieties of breeds and call attention to the National Purebred Dog Day. I arranged my paintings in a format to showcase the breeds as well as created a ribbon for the event. When I paint I use glazes of layered acrylic colors across black washed canvases, building up the hues from the base. Animals are deconstructed and reconstructed into design elements on paper thru geometry and intuition. Finished drawings are transferred to loose backgrounds where long tipped quill brushes fill in fragmented shapes. The shapes, inspired by cubism, are set within the boundary of the subject with precision until they force the abstraction to become a delightfully recognizable image.
