One Beagle’s Rags to Riches Story

Happy nuptials to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who got married today, but special congratulations go to Markle’s Beagle, “Guy,” who is a real rags-to-riches story. Guy, who was adopted by the soon-to-be duchess from a Kentucky kill shelter, will end up living in a palace with royalty.

As the story goes, a kill shelter sent an email in 2015 to the head of a Canadian rescue group specializing in Beagles. The shelter asked if the group had room for a 17-pound Beagle that had been found in the woods, and was scheduled to be put down. Guy was relocated to Ontario. Markle, who was living in Toronto while working as an actress on the TV show “Suits,” had been corresponding with the group to find a companion for her first dog, “Bogart,” a Labrador-shepherd mix.  A match was found. Since then, Harry met Meghan, and the story culminated with a wedding today at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.  Sadly, Bogart was too old to adapt to a move across the Pond and lives with good friends.

Guy, on the other hand, is living large. In a video captured by the Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth II’s Range Rover was seen driving toward Windsor a day before the royal wedding, and guess who was sitting next to The Queen in the back seat? The video has since been taken down, but a screen shot shows the lucky dog:

  1. Guy apparently ended up with two broken legs when he got to the UK in November, and there wasn’t any explanation about how that happened. I hope his injuries have healed completely at this point, and that he will be well taken care of. Maybe the Queen is adopting him!

    • TWO broken legs???? Yikes, Curtisy, we’d heard he had an injury, but details were in short supply…..
