When the breed was first shown in the late 1800s, it was shown under a mouthful of a name – the “Broken coated terrier of blackish blue sheen.” Mercifully, the name soon changed to “Blue and Tan,” but then it changed again to “Blue Terrier.” It still wasn’t done; in 1900, it was renamed the “Rough-Coated Terrier, Blue and Tan. Today, we know this plucky, fun loving and adventurous dog as the Australian Terrier.
