The “Priceless” Boston Terrier

We suppose it’s a sign of lunacy to miss a TV commercial, but we admit to missing MasterCard’s “priceless” ads. One of their best spots came in 2004 and featured “Badger,” the lost Boston Terrier.

“Badger’s real name was “Toby,” who got the MasterCard job because at the time, he seemed unusual. “We wanted a dog that America would fall in love with,” said Lisa Brandriff, a writer at ad agency McCann-Erickson in New York who wrote the “Lost Dog” MasterCard commercials. “We also knew the dog was very trainable. We wanted a Charlie Chaplin-like character. Toby was our first choice. He has the most amazing personality. Sweet, lovable and tons of energy.”
