Title: “Purebred Dog Day Poster”
Artist: Jess Lindell
Size: 18″ x 24″ x 0″
Artist’s Thoughts: I wanted to capture a unique personality trait of each of the breeds I painted by emphasizing their expression. Painting dogs and other animals in watercolor brings me so much joy. The medium works so well to convey the depth of their eyes and texture of their fur. When I paint, I try to capture their personality by emphasizing their expression. From there I like to make sure my paintings have vivid color, exciting contrast, thoughtful composition, accurate drawing, and an interesting combination of clear and blurry features. Using this rubric, I was able to complete successful portraits of all of the breeds I incorporated into the poster. Each dog’s unique expression shows a trait of that particular breed – the aloof Bulldog, the apprehensive Chihuahua, the contemplative Labrador, the patient Boston Terrier, the cheery Samoyed, the loyal Norfolk Terrier, the focused Doberman Pinscher, the eager Rottweiler, and the happy Corgi.
