The Beauceron is the largest of the French sheepdogs, in addition to being a herder, he is a farmer’s dog, guard dog, and “kick a##” military and police dog. The French writer, Colette, a breed devotee, nicknamed the Beauceron “the country gentleman.” It is the Beauceron’s sock-like red marks on his feet has given him his other nickname: Red Stocking.
