Artist’s Thoughts:  I sought to capture the relaxation and utter bliss of Ember, this happy, blessed, sun kissed, snowy faced Labrador Retriever. By focusing on the structure of the canoe, the soft towel and the sweet gentle, relaxed, senior dog, the natural wood background and focus on the light, shadow and features in a realistic way, show the character and loving nature of the breed and allow the dog to be the centre of the painting. This painting was created for a close friend who sadly lost her lab, Ember in Aug 2018 at the age of 14. It was Ember’s first time in a canoe that summer and she and her owner who sat on the front seat enjoying the moment and sharing this special and unforgettable memory. Ember was a great mother to many litters at a wonderful breeder before being adopted as a senior by her loving forever family. The painting depicts her beautiful nature and that of the breed.
