Rusty, the American Dog

The locals call him, “Rusty,” but his proper name is “American Dog.” He’s a 500 pound Bloodhound that stands ten feet tall andart,American Dog,Bloodhound is made of Cor-Ten steel. Rusty is, of course, a sculpture, and “he” was created by Massachusetts sculptor, Dale Rogers. The piece was supposed to go into Bonita City, Florida’s new dog park, but residents of Depot Park came to regard the piece as a member of the community and insisted that he stay there. Their sentiments demonstrate the power of public art. A smaller version of the American Dog named, “Marley,” was donated by the artist to the City so that they could raffle it as a fund raiser for their public art program.
