Title: “Seasoned Hands”

Medium: Graphite Pencil

Artist’s Thoughts: My friend, a retired veterinarian, and his dog Jack, are real inspiring hands. Many are the foals & calves that have been delivered, by these kind hands, as were the many round-ups, in which these two made the best team. These Seasoned Hands, are a true testament of hard work and much love. Who hasn’t done a lot of waiting in their lives? Jack, one of the most inspiring animals that I have ever met, was a perfect example of doing just that, and being perfectly, patient, & comfortable, with it. I think we all can relate with Jack, at this time…Waiting…. but in the light of hope.
Andy Mast is internationally recognized for his extraordinary pencil drawings, establishing his career success with numerous awards and exhibiting in prestigious venues of western art. The rich, cultural values, instilled throughout his Amish upbringing are all direct influences in the refined pencil work of Mast. Realizing his passion for drawing at an early age, he honed his artistic skills, drawing deep into the night under lantern light following long days on the family farm. Longing for a mentor and craving constructive critique, his hard work and intense passion for creating art, from simple moments in life, quickly became the catalyst for maturing as a professional artist despite exposure to formal training. At the young age of 17, Mast suffered a horse-related TBI that plunged him into a five-year journey engulfed by overwhelming disability and darkness. Despite this life-changing experience, Mast strives to communicate emotionally, through the language of art.
