Being a working dog in Australia isn’t for sissy dogs, and more to the point, they’re the backbone of many of Australia’s livestock operations. To prove it, Cobber dog food manufacturer, Ridley, created a challenge to highlight the work done by working dogs on Australia’s farms and ranches. Eight working dogs competed against each other in a three week contest that started in December, 2016. Not surprisingly, perhaps, the competitors were all Australian Kelpies. Each dog wore a GPS collar to measure the distance he or she travelled, the duration, and their average speed. The data was recorded daily, and it was enough to humble the best of our dogs. These dogs travelled up to 38.09 miles a day, and reached speeds of approximately 10.7 mph. Wow.
