Texas’ State Dog

You have to love a breed named the Blue Lacy. The hint of pretty, delicate doilies the color of cornflowers ends there, however. The Blue Lacy (named for the Lacy brothers who developed it, and its unusual slate blue coat) is a spectacular worker fully equipped to handle the orneriest Longhorn, meanest wild hog, run trap lines, replace the work of five cowboys, and tuck the kiddies into bed at night.

The dog that according to the Lacy family was a mixture of English Shepherd, Greyhound, and wolf was named the official State Dog of Texas on June 18, 2005, and so signed into legislation by Governor Rick Perry.
