The Bulldog’s Version of “Man-Spread”

A “spread” is a term used to define the “geography” between a Bulldog’s front legs (particularly when the dog is in a show stance). Historically, this spread gave the dog “ballast” in handling a bull back when that was its job. The exaggerated centre of gravity also worked to reduce stress to the dog’s back if the bull got a hold of him and gave it a good shaking. The shorter answer is that “spread” refers to the somewhat accentuated width of chest of this wonderful breed.
