Unique to Glen of Imaal Terriers is a sitting position in which the dogs sit on their hind ends and hold their entire body erect in a posture not commonly seen in other breeds. Not surprisingly, it’s known as the “Glen Sit.” Did we pull this tidbit out of our hat? You be the judge:
We’d say the evidence is clear!

My Cardigan Welsh Corgi does this all the time!
My Glen of Imaal frequently sits up all on his own with no instruction. He sits like this on a couch, in a chair, while riding, on the floor and even in the middle of a bed and does not require any back support. He knows it’s cute and that it makes me smile. He does. this almost every day and will sit like that for several minutes. While folding laundry, I looked over to see him sitting up in the middle of the bed appearing to watch TV.
That’s one of the cutest things we’ve ever heard of – and seen, Linda! Thanks for sharing this little guy’s photo of him in action!
I have (what I told was) a cairn mix (mom full cairn dad a Morkie). He looks like he could be Yorkie, cairn or an similar Terrier breed and with the long body actually seems to favor the Glen. He’s done the Glen sit ever since he was a pup and will sit like that for an hour without needing to be supported. It wasn’t until I found out about the “Glen sit” just now that I realized maybe the mom was something different. I have dozens of pics of him sitting like the one shown
Too cute!
Looks more like a glen to me . The long body and the tipped ears and her thick coat and the glen sit.
My (purebred?) Cairn has been doing “The Glen Sit” since he was a wee puppy. He does the sit when he wants my attention, often accompanied by frantic waving of his front paws; but he will also sit in front of the front door or on my bed looking out the window, always on the lookout for something to bark at.
Leave it to a Cairn Terrier to do the one thing that will melt hearts…..We have a special affection for the breed, it was our childhood dogs
This is Delilah. She loves to “sit pretty” as it sometimes garners her a treat, or two. If we’re out in public, she loves the attention that she gets from strangers when she does it.
We don’t know if she’s a Doxie Scot with maybe some schnauzer (which would help account for her 35#s) as well. Or maybe she’s a PBGV/Glen of Imaal mix?
Marvin was identified as a PBGV too but his DNA kit made no mention of it. Marvin & Delilah look like they could be related!
My Yorkie mix has does this since we adopted him. Maybe he’s got Glen in him!
