The “Jumping Up and Down Dogs”

Though the Western translation of the word, “Basenji” is “wild dog from the bush,” in Africa, they’re referred to as “dogs of the Villagers,” “wild dogs,” or our favorite, “m’bwa m’kube m’bwa wamwitu,” or “jumping up and down dogs,” in reference to their inclination to jump straight up to spot their quarry.

The best example we were able to find of this comes from You Tube, and if you have a better one, we’d love to see it!
