Artist’s Thoughts:  I foster homeless dogs for rescue and I love hounds. Many hounds are mistreated by neglectful hunters and end up in dog rescues. This is a Foxhound I fostered enjoying the sunshine. She was just beautiful in this setting. I wanted to capture the dog with the autumn leaves, which was a challenge because the dog and leaves were similar colors. I used a pinkish underpainting that shows through on the chest and , belly and armpits. I often create a fur texture by using a scraper to allow the underpainting to show through. With any dog, the eyes are key to capture the essence of the dog.
