Her nickname is “Entle,” and her breed isn’t one most folks would regard as a herding dog, in part because of her name: Entlebucher Mountain Dog. The breed is part of the #AKC herding group, however, because in her native Switzerland, she herded horses and hogs, but especially cattle up and down sloping pastures. This kind of work took an agile, rugged dog and Entles are famous for their balance and determination.
This compact, muscular dog is named after the village of Entlebuch and is believed to have descended from Molossus dogs brought by the Romans over 2,000 years ago.
