The “Neon” Frenchie

It’s hard to believe that the images seen here aren’t really electric signs lit by long luminous gas-discharge tubes containing a gas – namely, neon signs, but they’re not. They are examples of a tagging or graffiti art style known “neon glow” achieved by putting white lines under a transparent color, and the first street artist to use this technique is probably “Straker,” aka Drew Straker. We can’t do better than to let the muralist from Perth, Australia explain his method, himself:

The image at the top isn’t the first time Straker depicted a French Bulldog. He also rendered a Frenchie in the mural below:

A Frenchie also showed up in a series of neon panels that were on display in Hong Kong in 2018. It’s not surprising, then, to learn that he has incorporated his own French Bulldog into the designs. Paint what you know!

You can read more about Straker in an interview he had with Amanda Sheppard for localiiz.
