From 1954 to 1959, it was the most popular registered breed in America, but it has also consistently been the only breed to rank in the AKC’s Top Ten rankings in every decade since the founding of the kennel club. That is some reign. We are talking about the Beagle, of course.
Everyone knows someone with a Beagle. Everyone knows Snoopy (did you know that he’s AKC registered?), and even people outside the dog fancy know “Uno,” the first Beagle to win Best in Show at Westminster which he did in 2008.
Did you know that in addition to being one of the most vocal breeds, the Beagle can make three different sounds? She has a standard bark, but she also has as part of her range the “bay,” (which she uses when hunting), and a howl.
