The Other Meaning of “Broken Coat”

Occasionally, you may hear reference to a dog (usually a terrier) having a “broken coat.”

Back in the day, some referred to a wire coated dog as having a broken coat, but there is, we’ve read, also a modern meaning. When a double coated dog is stripped, the new outer coat that comes through has a wave, or “break” that shows up mostly on the dog’s “saddle” area. An Airedale can be a good illustration of a dog with a double coat like several of the other rough coated terriers. Do you have a breed with a “broken” coat?
