Artist’s Thoughts: Labs have alway intrigued me. Not only because they are such loyal dogs, but also how loyal and easy to train for unique tasks. A retrieval lab otherwise known as a gun dog, is trained to find birds and retrieve them without any injury to the bird. In this painting I wanted to capture the spirit of sport hunting, the gentle obedience of the Lab as he carefully retrieved a duck for his master. Not a single feather is broken in the process. The duck was unharmed and flew away.
