Artist’s Thoughts:  My love of the diversity of dogs started young, when I borrowed an encyclopedia of dog breeds from the library. I was fascinated how ancient societies shaped the wild wolf into the rainbow of interesting forms and functions the modern dog has today. From the deserts of Egypt to the mountains of Japan, the dog has undergone a complex journey, walking every step with humanity – side-by-side. I selected breeds from each AKC group that appealed to me visually while also having long and interesting histories – such as the Chinese Crested possibly descending from hairless dogs in Africa, or the Hokkaido Inu evolving in isolation alongside the Ainu people over hundreds of years. Altogether, my image features the Akita Inu, Hokkaido Inu, Kai Ken, Irish Water Spaniel, Pharaoh Hound, Xoloitzcuintli, Border Collie, Scottish Terrier, and Chinese Crested.
