Many folks would be highly offended if they were described as having an “apple round rear,” but it’s an acceptable term to describe the posterior of dogs with well rounded rear assemblies, the result of thigh muscles are firm and prominent and have a rounded look like (wait for it) – an apple! The Basset Hound is an example. For some strange reason, we couldn’t find a photograph of this to illustrate the term. People just aren’t taking pictures of their dogs’ rear ends like they used to.

The Australian illustrated standard for the Basset Hound has some good examples at this link, if you scroll down to the section on “Hindquarters” there are several photos and a sketch illustrating the apple shape.
