Artist’s Thoughts: I like to create realistic but somewhat stylized images. I have recently come to enjoy painting in oils. I also really enjoy the use of color, If you look closely in the painting you will find sections that have pops of color on the dogs in a discrete way. I wanted to show case one dog from each category of AKC including the miscellaneous and Foundation stock dog. I decided on showcasing dogs that were not necessarily the most popular from their groups. The dogs in my painting are as follows: Welsh Terrier, Doberman Pinscher, Lhaso Apso, Pug, Catahoula Leopard Dog, Border Collie, German Shorthair Pointer, Lancashire Heeler, and Irish Wolfhound.

  1. I love the energy in this piece! And as I grew up with an Irish Wolfhound, and am really embedded in the hound group, I of course am very appreciative to the IW and the Catahoula Leopard Dog being featured! Can’t wait for the latter to gain entry into the group!
