We’ve posted about the Dulux paint mascot before, Old English Sheepdog who were featured regularly in Dulux TV commercials; we may even have mentioned that the first of them all was Shepton Dash, the “face” of Dulux for eight years starting in 1961. But did you know that apart from Shepton Dash, every one of the Dulux Sheepdogs was a dog show breed champion, that five of them were ‘Best of Show’ winners, and that the most recent Dulux dog, Don, qualified for Crufts? It reminds us of a certain slogan that shows up on certain tote bags and T-shirts: Purebred dogs: They’re not just for show.
As an interesting aside, the dog who succeeded Shepton Dash, Fernville Lord Digby, was trained by Barbara “Walkies’ Woodhouse. Digby was probably the most famous Dulux dog of them all and made his owner, Cynthia Harrison, quite famous. Digby was treated like a star and was driven to the studio by a chauffeur. He also had three stunt doubles who were used whenever specific tricks or actions needed to be filmed.
