Some breed cuts have what is called “tipped ears.” This means that the top third of the ear is shaved leaving sharply pointed ears that enhance the expression of breeds like the Yorkshire Terrier and West Highland White Terrier. As an aside, a Westie pup’s ears will typically stand up by 8 – 12 weeks of age, but teething may delay this in some youngsters until they’re six months old, and cartilage is strong enough to hold the ears up. Westie folks, can you weigh in on this?
