In August 2013, 222 Golden Retrievers met in front of Guisachan House in the Scottish Highlands to celebrate the origins of the breed. It was where the first Golden Retriever puppies were bred by Dudley Marjoribanks, First Baron Tweedmouth who’d bought Guisachan House in 1854. “Guisachan,” by the way, is pronounced “yoush- a gan.”
Two hundred and twenty two Golden Retrievers in one spot?
Pfffffftttt.
This year on the 150th anniversary, 361 dogs helped celebrate at the meet-up organized by the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland, far larger than previous gatherings. Can you image 361 Golden Retrievers in one place?
This is what it looked like:
Lord Tweedmouth created the Golden Retriever by breeding “Nous,” a Wavy-coated Retriever, to a Tweed Water Spaniel named “Belle” that he’d been given by his cousin, David Robertson in 1868. The three yellow wavy-coated puppies named, “Crocus,” “Cowslip” and “Primrose” were the foundation litter of Golden Retriever puppies.
Read more about this part of the breed history at the terrific site, Friends of Guisachan from where the photo Guisachan House of comes. The site has amazing photographs, including one of “Nous” carrying his “clothie” while standing next to a dog that historians this may be “Belle.”

Looks like paradise to me, even if it is a bit noisy 🙂 I’d be like that guy in the camo shorts petting every one that passes by!
LOL, Sybella, we were thinking the same thing about that chap in the cameo shorts!
