The AKC recognizes the Beagle in two sizes, and one of them is not the so called “Pocket Beagle” (a marketing ploy used by substandard breeders). The two sizes, 13-inch and 15-inch, can be born in a single litter, and people interested in getting a particular size are often advised to wait until a puppy is older. The smaller Beagles are no taller than 13 inches at the shoulder, while the larger sized Beagles are taller than 13 inches, but not over than 15 inches.
While different countries may have slightly different breed conformation standards, there is only one Beagle breed that’s simply called the Beagle, not the American Beagle or the English Beagle.
