You Can’t Tell Them, “Stay Exactly As You Are”

The British artist was best known for life-size watercolors of nightclubs and city scenes, but in 2015, then 73 year old David Remfry published the book, “We Think the World of You: People and Dogs Drawn Together.” Most of the portraits were of friends, some were of Chelsea Hotel residents, and some were of famous actors  – but all were drawn with their dogs.

Some of the notables include Susan Sarandon and her Pomeranians,  American philanthropist and arts patron, Agnes Gund with her Wheaten Terriers, and, as seen here,  Ethan Hawke and his Border Collie, “Nina.”

Remfry has long been fascinated by the relationships that  between dogs and their owners, and his book, with its delicate watercolor and gouache paintings visually explores this mutual understanding and partnerships. In the video below, Remfry talks about the project and shows some of the images:

The book can be found on Amazon.
