It may not be a term many of us outside of Australia will encounter, but we think it’s good to know what’s happening elsewhere in the purebred dog owning community.
The New South Wales Companion Animals Act of 1998 requires all Greyhounds to wear a muzzle when in a public place. In February 2011, however, the NSW Companion Animals Regulation 2008 was amended to provide an exemption to pets and retired racing Greyhounds that successfully completed and passed an approved Greyhound re-training program and assessment. Greyhounds that have passed the program don’t have to wear a muzzle when their leash is under the control of a responsible person, and these dogs are referred to as “Greenhounds” for the green collars they wear to show their muzzle exempt status.
