There is a breed that was developed by farmers and sheep ranchers living in the area that was essentially the border between England and Scotland. They called the resulting dogs (wait for it) – Border Collies! The drive to herd is so innate in this breed that some owners have been known to rent or buy sheep just to allow their dogs to meet their compulsion.
