A Schnauzer/GSD Team – Help Us Verify?

We’ve repeatedly come across references to German farmers pairing a Miniature Schnauzer with a German Shepherd to act as a detection & response team that could ward of predators and keep their farms and livestock safe.  The Schnauzer’s great hearing and loud barking alerted the German Shepherd when there was trouble, and the Shepherd took care of the rest with intimidation, or more. Can anyone in our vast pool of breed experts verify this?

That’s said, it’s not like the Schnauzer can’t do the job, though admittedly, it’s the bigger sized Schnauzer. This past year at the G20 Summit in Hamburg, a 98 pound US Air Force military working Giant Schnauzer named, “Brock” was part of the security detail for President Trump’s visit. Brock is a dual-certified, odor protection and patrol training dog who is officially deemed one rank higher than his handler. World War II, Brock is the first and only GS in the Defense Department in almost 30 years.

Brock was trained at the Joint-Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas where he had a reputation of being the hardest dog to train. First slated for assignment with the TSA, Brock was a better fit for the Air Force because of their requirements for patrol-training dogs. According to his handler, Air Force Staff Sgt. Dominick Young, Brock is now one of the details best noses and MWD.
