Versatility is a word we bandy about quite a bit here on National Purebred Dog Day®, and while we so admire the “specialists” in our dog breeds (and we have a bunch of them), there’s also much to be said for a dog that can do “a little of that and a little of that.” What does real versatility look like?
In 2012, a little lady named “Molly” earned an AKC Herding title at the Mid-Florida Australian Cattle Dog Fanciers Herding Trials. Molly wasn’t an ACD. Molly wasn’t even a herding breed. Molly was a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, and with that title, she became the first of her breed to earn the title. That’s versatility.
