Artist’s Thoughts:  Pets have an imprint on our hearts and souls. They are four legged family members who enrich our lives and love us unconditionally. Dogs have so many diverse characteristics and personalities (like humans) which is why I believe we become so attached to our dogs. Therefore, my thinking process for choosing this versatile, outdoor loving, energetic, exercised in body and mind rare breed was rooted after a friend had a GSP puppy. I had witnessed the bond this dog shared with their family as well as – no surprise here – hunting anything they’re legally allowed to go after. These dogs are up for anything, and have lively minds and trainable natures. They have loyal hearts and well that says it all for me.

My image was sketched out on a 18 x24 piece of ply wood which I had cut and then painted. The charcoal sketch evolved and acrylic paints were added to the charcoal. The texture from the wood grain added an aesthetic addition when one thinks about the breeds water-repellent coat with short, thick hair that feels coarse to the touch. I anxiously added the breeds color combination and patterns for spots or unique “birthmarks” as I call them. The monochromatic palette was chosen to represent all of the German Shorthaired pointers. This way one can see their own breed through my paintings soulful captured eyes
