As the story goes, Chinese sailors loved taking Chinese Crested Hairless dogs along on their voyages during the 14th century. The dogs caught rats on the ships and help prevent the spread of the Black Death, not only because they dispatched the rats that carried the disease, but also because the dogs themselves weren’t likely to contribute to the spread of the disease because their lack of hair made them less likely to get fleas.
